Understanding the OPL Pickleball Rating System

An OPL Rating is a MYOPL skill signal built from eligible confirmed results. It can support compatible games and personal development, but it should be read with reliability, match history, format, opponent variety, and the player’s goals.

The original promise

The release presented a rating path for players whose meaningful matches happen in recreational and open-play settings. It emphasized low-friction participation, continuing progress, and the ability to carry a player’s MYOPL information across joined communities.

Build useful evidence

  1. Record only completed eligible matches.
  2. List the people who actually played.
  3. Allow the participants to confirm the proposed result.
  4. Continue playing a variety of suitable opponents.
  5. Read Singles and Doubles separately.
  6. Use reliability and history before drawing a conclusion from the value.

Use the number constructively

  • Find compatible games.
  • Set a practice goal.
  • Understand progress over time.
  • Discuss a suitable level with an organizer.
  • Avoid treating a rating as a person’s social standing or tournament identity.
